A Living Room Before & After

Moving into a new home can be both exciting and stressful. I should know, we moved 9 times in 4 years. One of the challenges we faced when moving was how to incorporate our existing furnishings into our new space. Do you toss everything and start over from scratch? Do you just use what you have and “make it work”? After much trial and error, I believe you do a bit of both.

Here’s how we used my hard-won experience to help a client who moved from Texas to California. She purchased one of our Luxury DIY design packages, where we create the design, source all the furnishings, and the client implements the design. We were excited to be able to come back and photography the space after they implemented the design. Here is what the space looked like before we started.

The client loved the views from the room and wanted it to be a space that both adults and kids could enjoy. She had some great storage, albeit the finish was dated. The little bar area was perfect for entertaining but that too was showing some age.

To lighten up the space and stay on budget we decided to paint the existing cabinetry and added new hardware. We also switched out the countertops and faucet.

We created two seating areas. A sofa in front of the TV for the kiddos, along with a large coffee table for playing games. And a second seating area with 4 swivel chairs and coffee table for the adults to enjoy.
